            <link>http://cleveland.artsinohio.com/preview.php?id=55304&amp;type=e</link>
<description>The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will open the exhibit Break on Through The Lasting Legacy of The Doors in May 2007. The exhibit, which will be located on Levels 5 and 6 of the Museum, will examine the career and impact of The Doors through a display of one-of-a-kind artifacts, original manuscripts, rare concert posters, photographs and video. This is the first time the surviving members of The Doors, along with the Jim Morrison estate, have given their full blessing and cooperation to an exhibit of this kind.

&quot;More than just about any other rock band, The Doors have been able to transcend their era and impact succeeding generations,&quot; said Jim Henke, chief curator at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. &quot;The Doors recorded five studio albums and haven't released a new record since 1981. Yet they sell more than 2 million albums worldwide each year  and the vast majority of those albums are purchased not by their original fans from the Sixties, but by teenagers and twenty-somethings who are just now discovering the band. Their legacy is embraced, studied, emulated and cherished around the world.&quot;

The Museum already has an extensive collection of artifacts related to the life of Jim Morrison. When the Museum opened, his parents donated numerous items, including his baby book, school report cards, early writings, drawings and paintings, and personal correspondence. The Museum is now collecting additional materials from John Densmore, Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek.</description>

<title>Help! Behind the Scenes of the Beatles' Movie (11/17/2007 - 9/1/2008)</title>
            <link>http://cleveland.artsinohio.com/preview.php?id=55572&amp;type=e</link>
<description>The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will pay homage to the Beatles' impact on our culture with a new exhibit that commemorates the group's classic 1965 movie, Help!

Help! Behind the Scenes of the Beatles' Movie will open with a members-only reception at 7 p.m. on November 16, 2007. The exhibit, which is timed to the November 6 release of the film on DVD, will include many never-before-seen artifacts and set photography shot during the making of the movie.
Help! follows in the great tradition of classic comedy chase movies. In this instance, John, Paul, George and Ringo find themselves being pursued across the world by not one but two groups of fanatics with separate agendas. Ringo possesses a ring with a large red stone set in the middle, sent to him by a fan. The first group of fanatics are cult followers of the Goddess Kaili led by Swami Clang (Leo McKern), including High Priestess Ahme (Eleanor Bron); and the second group are comprised of two scientists named Foot (Victor Spinetti) and Algernon (Roy Kinnear) who have become involved, being called in by the Government to try and remove the ring from Ringo's finger.

These cult followers and the two scientists frantically pursue The Beatles first through London, then up the snow-covered Austrian Alps to Buckingham Palace, across Salisbury Plain and finally along the sandy beaches of the Bahamas with a Scotland Yard Police Superintendent (Patrick Cargill) in hot pursuit.

The film features performances of 7 classic Beatles songs. &quot;Help,? &quot; You're Going To Lose That Girl,? &quot; You've Got To Hide Your Love Away,? &quot;Ticket To Ride,? &quot;I Need You,? &quot; The Night Before? and &quot;Another Girl.?
&quot; We've tried to capture the zany spirit of the Beatles' second movie in this exhibit,? said Jim Henke, vice president of exhibitions and curatorial affairs for the Museum. &quot; We were fortunate in that the Beatles' organization Apple Corps had great archives of material from the filming of the movie, and they have generously loaned much of it to us for the exhibit.?

The exhibit will feature George Harrison's original script for the film, and a reproduction of Richard Lester's working script with handwritten changes, various shooting schedules and call sheets, posters, tickets to the U.S. premiere of the film at the Beacon Theater in New York City, press kits and promotional items. It will also include costumes worn by the Beatles in the film, and instruments played in the film.

<description>Spring Older Teens and Adults Musical (Ages 16 on up) The Who’s “Tommy
May 2-18, 2008
Peter Townshend’s tale of a young boy’s journey from pain to triumph is the most electrifying evening of rock and roll ever to play in a theatre! After witnessing the accidental murder of his mother's lover by his father, Tommy is traumatized into catatonia, and as the boy grows, he suffers abuse at the hands of his sadistic relatives and neighbors. As an adolescent, he’s discovered to have an uncanny knack for playing pinball, and when his mother finally breaks through his catatonia, he becomes an international pinball superstar. The classic '60s rock opera by The Who includes the songs: “Acid Queen, “Pinball Wizard and “See me, Feel Me.

Summer Children’s Musical (Ages 9-12) “SEUSSICAL, Jr.
June 13-15, 2008
“If you open your mind,
Oh, the thinks you will find
Lining up to get loose...
Oh, the thinks you can think
When you think about Seuss!

So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville!
These classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by Jojo, a young boy and “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks! As each story unfolds you will marvel at how relevant and profound Seuss’s subtle themes are; making this musical one that appeals to all ages. The songs are a Seussian gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&amp;B to funk!

Summer Youth Theater Musical (Teens Ages 13-19) “WEST SIDE STORY
July 18-August 3, 2008
Hot moves. Cool tunes. Homeboys and immigrants fighting for life, love and the pursuit of happiness. Fueled by theater geniuses Bernstein, Sondheim, Robbins and Laurents, the world’s greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark 1957 ground-breaking musical theater classic. Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet spills into modern day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice makes this show still one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. Songs include “Tonight, “America, “I Feel Pretty and “Somewhere.

            <link>http://cleveland.artsinohio.com/preview.php?id=58585&amp;type=e</link>
<description>This summer, children and their parents or guardians will enjoy a chance to combine old-fashioned learning and family fun in Oberlin's pioneer-era one-room schoolhouse located on the grounds of the Oberlin Heritage Center. &quot;Saturdays at the Schoolhouse&quot; is a new program debuting June 14 and continuing each Saturday through August 16. The Schoolhouse door will be open from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. on those dates, and the Heritage Center will offer a variety of free activities for guests young and old in a &quot;drop-in&quot; style format. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors can explore the building, take part in historic school lessons, and play games together inside and out. (Outdoor schoolyard games will be dependent on the weather.)

The Little Red Schoolhouse was built in 1836-37 and is considered the oldest building in Oberlin. It originally was located just north of what is now the intersection of Main and Lorain Streets in Oberlin, and was utilized as the first free-standing schoolhouse in the community. Children of many ages attended school there in the community's earliest years. With College and community closely intertwined, Oberlin's public schools followed the College's policy on integration and were open to all children, regardless of race. This was not the case for many other public education institutions in Ohio during that same era.

Those who wish to stay the afternoon can plan to take a guided tour of the Oberlin Heritage Center at 1:30 p.m. In addition to learning more about the Little Red Schoolhouse, the tour includes the 1866 James Monroe House, and the 1884 Jewett House. Tour participants will hear stories of the Underground Railroad and abolition, student life, women's history, the development of aluminum, and much more. The tour fee is $6 for adults (with a $1 discount given to AAA members), and it is free for children as well as for Oberlin Heritage Center members. The tour is recommended for children ages 7 and above. Guided tours begin at the Monroe House, on the Heritage Center grounds. The Museum Store at the Oberlin Heritage Center (located in the Monroe House) also will be open throughout the afternoon.

The Oberlin Heritage Center offers visitors free parking, in its lot accessible off of West Vine Street in Oberlin. For more information about &quot;Saturdays at the Schoolhouse,&quot; please call the Oberlin Heritage Center at (440) 774-1700 or e-mail tourinfo@oberlinheritage.org.

Among the characters are Carol, the friend who was born to party; Anita, who never holds her tongue; Liza, the friend who has 'issues'; Kate, the boring friend who is also the designated driver; and Sharon, the not-so-angelic angel who just couldn't resist tagging along! <title>Ohio Historical Marker Dedication for Downtown Oberlin (6/25/2008 - 7/9/2008)</title>
            <link>http://cleveland.artsinohio.com/preview.php?id=59138&amp;type=e</link>
<description>The dedication of an Ohio Historical Marker in Downtown Oberlin, originally planned to take place on Friday, June 27, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 8 at 12 noon. Other details of the event remain the same. The ceremony will be held on the front lawn of the New Union Center for the Arts at 39 South Main Street in the heart of Oberlin's downtown historic district. (In case of rain, the dedication will be moved to the Oberlin Public Library's Meeting Room (65 South Main Street). This event is free and open to the public. Following a welcome from Oberlin City Council President David Sonner, brief remarks will be made by local and state officials. Invited speakers include County Commissioner Betty Blair, Jeff Siegler from Heritage Ohio, Ohio Historical Society representative J.D. Britton, Oberlin Heritage Center Executive Director Pat Murphy, and Main Street Oberlin Director Christina Nichols. The ceremony is being coordinated by the City of Oberlin Historic Preservation Commission and the Oberlin Heritage Center in cooperation with Main Street Oberlin. Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony, courtesy of downtown restaurants. Ultimately, the downtown historical marker will be permanently located at the southwest corner of Main and West College Streets, in front of the Java Zone.

Oberlin's downtown National Register Historic District encompasses much of the historic core of the central business district along the south side of East and West College streets and along South Main Street. The district features an array of historic commercial buildings typical of the period from the 1860s to the 1930s. The downtown district was nominated for the National Register in 2003. The nomination form was prepared by Oberlin Heritage Center Executive Director Pat Murphy with the assistance of volunteer Dick Holsworth and others. The downtown designation helped Oberlin become one of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Dozen Distinctive Destinations in 2004 and also led to it being designated a Preserve America Community by the U.S. Advisory Council on Historic Preservation. District designation entitles property owners to tax incentives for rehabilitation and is an important tool for promoting heritage tourism and economic revitalization. For more information, contact the Oberlin Heritage Center at 440-774-1700 or Main Street Oberlin at 774-6262.
